As a founder of Anteja, Mateja Dermastia has a compelling drive to pave the way towards sustainability. Her determination to shape an economy that is sustainable, transparent and inclusive has led her to create a global network of policy, strategy and economic experts, scientists and industry leaders. Mateja’s approach is grounded in science, a core foundation for all of Anteja’s consulting, research, and venture building work.

Over the last 15 years, Mateja has advised government and business leaders from Europe, Asia, Africa, US and Latin America on industrial transformation towards sustainable business models. She worked as a State Undersecretary at the Slovenian government, member of the Slovenian Ministry Cabinet for Innovation and the CEO of the Center of Excellence PoliMaT. She leads regional experts on policy development at EU Interreg programs Ardia Net, AlplinkBioEco, DanuBioValNet and GoDanubio.

Mateja provided guidance and leadership on policy, strategy formulation and action plans for national and regional clusters in Africa (ECOWAS, COMESA) Central Asia, Bangladesh and Vietnam. She was a member of the Advisory Panel for Innovation in Agriculture in Africa for the Bill Gates Foundation. She led consulting assignments for the OECD, World Bank Group (i.e. Plastic Sector Strategy in Ivory Coast in 2019, TVET Centers in Ethiopia and Tanzania in 2018, Value chain development in Tunisia, Albania, Tajikistan in 2017) and GIZ (Coffee value chain in Rwanda).

Mateja’s knowledge of sustainable development, value chains, technology and innovation builds on her Master’s in Economic Sciences, Master’s in Biochemistry and Executive program Science, technology and innovation for development at Harvard Kennedy School. Mateja is a co-author of a number of publications in value chains, clusters, competitiveness and innovation.
