Commissioned under the Partnership for Improving Prospects for Forcibly Displaced Persons and Host Communities (PROSPECTS), the study tested whether commercial collection of moringa and fruits from refugee-hosting districts in Uganda is a feasible investment. It supports the Partnership’s aim of using the private sector to create jobs in situations of forced displacement. It also supports Uganda’s National Development Plan 2020/21–2024/25, which promotes socioeconomic and circular development in refugee-hosting areas through the Settlement Transformation Agenda.
The study assessed a fruit juice and moringa producer planning to expand in Uganda. It identified investment opportunities, constraints and critical success factors, including the investments needed to match production capacity to market requirements. Anteja appraised sector competitiveness, mapped the value chains and designed the field research instruments. It conducted interviews, focus groups and workshops, and analysed end markets through interviews and benchmarking. Anteja then identified gaps and binding constraints, calculated the investment case, and delivered reform recommendations.
